Rosh Hashanah Picnic and Tashlich Ritual
Picnic Time: Following Service
Location: Live Oak Park
Tashlich Ceremony with Wilderness Torah
NEW LOCATION: LIve Oak Park, 1301 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley, CA 94709
Ceremony Start Time: 2:30/3:00 pm
Join us for Tashlich, a short but meaningful ritual led by Wilderness Torah, who bring earth-based Jewish practices to life. In Tashlich, we symbolically cast off regrets, missed marks, and anything we wish to release from the past year into the flowing water of Strawberry Creek. No prior experience is needed, and all are welcome to participate.
Tashlich is part of our broader community picnic happening at Faculty Glade, just a 13-minute walk from the church. After services, grab some food from nearby spots and bring it to the picnic, where there will be games, face painting for kids, water, Lacroix, and plenty of space to relax and connect with friends old and new.
Wilderness Torah is a vibrant community dedicated to earth-based Jewish practice, weaving together nature, ritual, and spiritual reflection to create deep, embodied experiences that connect us to the rhythms of the natural world and the Jewish calendar.
We recommend picking up lunch from one of the following nearby spots on/near Telegraph Ave and bringing it with you to the picnic:
- Mezzo: Sandwiches + Salads: 2442 Telegraph
- Taco Sinaloa: 2384 Telegragh Ave
- Himalayan Bites: Indian/Nepalese Food: 2400 Telegraph
- D’Yar: Mediterranean Food: 2511 Durant Ave
- Burrito Boss: 2511`Durant Ave
- Chipotle: 2311 Telegraph
- There are MANY other food options in this area as well!
For High Holy Days this year, don’t settle for rote performance or empty ritual. We invite you to go deeper with us. Peel back the layers of the traditional liturgy to find meaning for our lives today. Make our sacred texts come alive in new and provocative ways. Allow our soulful music to open your heart and release what no longer serves you. Deepen your connection to Spirit by transcending outdated and dissonant notions of the Divine. Create deep bonds with a community that holds you in your full complexity. For more information about our services, check out our main High Holy Days information page.
