For thousands of years, our ancestors have marked the new moon of each Hebrew month as a time for renewal, celebration, and community; in fact, it is the first mitzvah (sacred ritual) in the Torah. These new month (Rosh Chodesh) gatherings have historically been gender-affinity spaces – and aligned with the Jewish mystical tradition, have provided opportunities for exploring the masculine and feminine energies of the Divine and within us.
Chochmat HaLev is excited to be reigniting and reimagining this ritual as an opportunity for you to build deep relationships with others in our community and with the wisdom of our tradition. As a core component of our Go Deeper theme for the year, we are launching a Rosh Chodesh Women+ Wisdom Circle and Kiddush Levana (Sanctifying the Moon) Men’s Blessing Circle. Both groups will meet monthly as a safe and intimate container for building bonds, providing support, engaging in spiritual practice, and sharing teachings. The monthly cadence allows us to connect with the sacred rhythm of the seasons and the mystical qualities of each month.
We invite you to deepen your friendships in the Chochmat HaLev community by joining one of these circles. If you’re someone who comes to services or other Chochmat events but wishes you knew more people in the community – this is a particularly great opportunity for you to be truly seen and known, and to connect with others beyond the surface. Each circle will be led by a volunteer team of Chochmat HaLev members who have unique experiences and meaningful wisdom to share as facilitators, teachers, and healers. To create this level of depth and connection, we ask that participants commit to at least six months in the circle, with the option of extending after the initial six meetings.

A note on gender affinity spaces: Our monthly new moon circles are open to everyone, including those who identify as trans, non-binary, or gender expansive. Our intention is to be inclusive in creating gender-affinity spaces, while also holding containers that have the safety and unique atmospheres that such gender affinity allows; please assume that you are welcome if a space feels right for you. If you have questions that would help you decide whether you’d like to join a circle, please email our Community Weaver, Brittany Berman at brittany@chochmat.org.
We are also gauging interest in creating a monthly circle specifically for community members who identify as non-binary and gender expansive. To express interest, please email our Community Weaver, Brittany Berman at brittany@chochmat.org.
