Join Chochmat HaLev for a Kabbalat Shabbat (Welcoming Shabbat) service, a mystical tradition full of embodied prayer, soulful singing, ecstatic dancing, guided meditation, sharing of ancestral wisdom, and connection in intergenerational community. This service will be led by Zvika Krieger, Lior Tsarfaty and special guests
Service will start promptly at 6pm — please arrive a few minutes early to check in and be seated.
Potluck dinner oneg after services, followed by a HeartSpace circle at 8pm: “Songs for Release and Return”. Kohenet Elana Brody returns to Chochmat HaLev on Shabbat of the Autumn Equinox to offer a special HeartSpace for the Hebrew month of Elul. Elana will lead communal songs, in Hebrew and in English, that guide our hearts and minds towards transformation, love, and healing, in this potent time of teshuva (return).

Kohenet Elana Brody returns to Chochmat HaLev on Shabbat of the Autumn Equinox to offer a special HeartSpace for the Hebrew month of Elul. Elana will lead communal songs, in Hebrew and in English, that guide our hearts and minds towards transformation, love, and healing, in this potent time of teshuva (return).
Kohenet Elana Brody is an acclaimed singer-songwriter, song leader, and Hebrew Priestess rooted in rural Appalachia, with a decade of Jewish life and leadership in New York City. Elana creates ritual spaces and musical experiences that move the soul with a deep love for the Divine and Mother Earth that resources all of her work.
Elana attended Berklee College of Music, studying vocal performance and songwriting. She was “discovered” a few years after her time at Berklee by Rabbi Shir Yaakov in 2014, who invited Elana to showcase her voice’s transformative powers for the Yom Kippur Kol Nidre prayer at Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center.
Elana discovered her own gift for sacred devotion there as well. She went on to spend the last ten years developing her craft as a prayer leader and Shliach Tzibur, collaborating and offering this gift all over the country in different alternative Jewish spaces. She is an ordained Hebrew Priestess and has worked alongside master healers and Jewish ritualists, such as Rabbi Tirzah Firestone, Rabbi David Ingber, Rabbi Yosef Goldman, Chazan Basya Schecter, Rabbi Jill Hammer, Nava Tehila’s Yoel Sykes and more.
She brings her 20 years of songwriting and performance experience into a focused, flowing channel of Divine connection and skillful prayer leading in Jewish renewal and alternative Jewish spaces. Elana brings a strong “Kohenet” flavor to her offerings, with a rich amount of chanting and singalong components. In her services, Elana includes the Divine Feminine and feminine Hebrew language, and raises up the feminine force of the universe as much as possible, while respecting and celebrating the more traditional aspects of G-d, in all their multiplicity and non-binary forms. As she is influenced by Chassidic teachers and Kabalistic teachings, a great faith, mysticism, and joy permeates what Elana offers, but she transforms it into an expression of the NOW – accessible even to the most assimilated, and non-Hebrew language familiar, of us!
Elana leads healing, prayer, and communal song gatherings, and serves as a teacher of voice and creative empowerment. In addition, Elana serves as the visionary prayer leader and founder of a blossoming ritual community for earth-based Judaism in Asheville, NC.

Entrance
Entrance to the Sanctuary is at the corner of Prince St. and Fulton St.. There are 8 steps into the main entrance of the Sanctuary. There is an accessible ramp at a separate entrance on Fulton St. Please let a volunteer or staff know if you need to use this entrance; you can also email us in advance at shalom@chochmat.org
Seating
We have folding chairs (some with padding, some without), pillows, and floor cushions available for you to use, along with limited bench seating in the back of the Sanctuary.
COVID Protocols
Our policy effective May 19th, 2023 is as follows:
Chochmat HaLev, in consultation with our medical advisor and based on community survey results, will discontinue masking requirements for attendance at events. Masks, although not required, are recommended. We understand people will need to make their own decisions about exposure and risk based on their own personal preferences, and health status.
Chochmat HaLev will provide passive ventilation (e.g., open windows and doors under the supervision of security-trained personnel) and other equipment as available.
Chochmat HaLev will include specific guidelines for those attending in person events on our website and in announcements regarding events.
Chochmat HaLev will provide seating adjacent to a window in an end-of-the-row seat to individuals upon request.
DO NOT attend an event at CHL if:
- you are experiencing any potential symptoms of COVID-19 or other illness
- you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 10 days and have not had a negative antigen test on Day 6 or later
- you have had a known exposure to COVID-19 in the past 3-5 days
- a household member has tested positive in the last 10 days and has not had a negative test on Day 6 or later
