Contemplative Shabbat – Saturday Morning
Join us for an in-person Shabbat service.
Janet Falk and Jeffrey Kessler conduct Chochmat’s beautiful Contemplative Service, created by founding member Nan Gefen and Rabbi Jonathan Omer-man. The service follows the arc of the traditional morning Shabbat service in distilled form – with alternating periods of chant and silence, time for personal prayer, Torah teaching, and Mourner’s Kaddish.
Followed by:
Kiddish Lunch 12:30 pm,
Chesed Community Care Circle 1:00 pm.
Chesed Care Circle: Join us for a chance to chant with longtime CHL member, Miriam Smolover, leader of the Kol HaLev/Voice of the Heart chanting meditation group (since 1998!), and artist of the beautiful The Source of the Sound CD. Miriam will teach several of the chants from her CD and there will be time to share our experiences of how chanting affects us.
Melanie DeMore says, “The songs on The Source of the Sound create a container for the listener and the singer to hold their whole selves in joy, prayer and communal connection.”
