“One State, Two State: Moral Red Lines” Rabbi Dr. Donniel Hartman

More information and Registration Beth El is thrilled to welcome Donniel Hartman, President of the Shalom Hartman Institute, as part  the East Bay iEngage Collaborative Lecture Series.  Donniel Hartman will examine how the notion of a one state or two state solution creates moral red lines for many inside and outside the Jewish community.  He will use this notion as a jumping off point to examine how Jewish communities can interact when different moral redlines exist as well as help offer some ways to answer when and how one comes to define their moral redline. Further, he will challenge the status quo pushing for a Jewish community that takes seriously the ideas of others even when it pushes up against moral redlines. Rabbi Dr. Donniel Hartman President, Shalom Hartman Institute Rabbi Dr. Donniel Hartman is President of the Shalom Hartman Institute and author of the highly regarded 2016 book, Putting God Second: How to Save Religion from Itself. Donniel is the founder of some of the most extensive education, training and enrichment programs for scholars, educators, rabbis, and religious and lay leaders in Israel and North America. He is a prominent essayist, blogger and lecturer on issues of Israeli politics, policy, Judaism, and the Jewish community. He has a Ph.D. in Jewish philosophy from Hebrew University, an M.A in political philosophy from New York University, an M.A. in religion from Temple University, and Rabbinic ordination from the Shalom Hartman Institute.
