Seeking Executive Director

Chochmat HaLev, a premiere Jewish Renewal synagogue in Berkeley, is seeking a new Executive Director. Chochmat HaLev is known for its welcoming and inclusive approach, high-energy musical services as well as deep meditation and contemplative offerings to provide a meaningful spiritual experience to its members and extended community.

Responsibilities of the Executive Director include: fiscal and budget management, fundraising, membership retention and development, board development, program management, office and staff management and coordinating communication. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and people skills as well as knowledge of systems and computer skills to support a diverse and growing synagogue.

Skills Needed:

Business acumen to manage budgets and finances
Fundraising skills with demonstrated ability to achieve results
o Ability to identify and implement new computer systems for
databases including financial reporting, member tracking and donation reporting
o Event planning skills
o Support and coordinate efforts of the spiritual leadership team
o Strong interpersonal skills, relationship building, flexibility and diplomacy
Strong communication skills, including social media and creative marketing tactics
Ability to work effectively with the Board and provide Board development

o Ability to provide leadership to a diverse staff


o Three years related experience
o Bachelor’s degree
o Familiarity with Jewish practices required; knowledge of the broader local Jewish community preferred
