A joy opening practice with Bruce Bierman
Ever since the prophetess Miriam broke out with timbrels and dance to celebrate crossing the Red Sea, Jewish dance has been a vehicle of great joy and vital connection to community. Join Jewish dance maven, Bruce Bierman, inside a supportive circle and discover the beauty, force and rejuvenating medicine of this ancient and contemporary art form. Some of the genres that will be explored are Yemenite, Hasidic, klezmer and classic Israeli folk dance. Styling, gestures and footwork will be articulated with great care with an eye on the deeper meanings behind each expression. Participants will also experience meditative warm-up stretches based on the shapes and healing messages of the Hebrew letters. All ages and backgrounds welcome. No dance experience necessary.
