a pre-Passover evening of spiritual and gustatory discovery
with Maggid Jhos Singer
Sunday March 29
Why is matzah square? And has it always been that way? How did Manischewitz wine end up at the center of the seder? Did Jews invent “you are what you eat?”
Each of the ritual foods on a traditional Seder plate are symbolic. In this class we will delve deeply into the power of gastronomic ritual—its history, practice and role in Jewish culture and religion. We will learn from each other, traditional sources and cultural expression to prepare ourselves for Judaism’s most beloved and edible rite.
