Join Chochmat Halev service leaders and special guest Shaykh Issa Nessim for an in-person Jewish-Sufi Kabbalat Shabbat. Welcome shabbat with the ancient practices of prayers, dance and meditation. In this service, we will weave our beautiful Chochmat music with Sufi and Sephardic prayers.

If you’re planning to attend in-person, please register in advance as COVID protocols may limit our amount of seating.

If you’re planning to attend via Zoom, the link is here: https://zoom.us/j/82694679  FYI: Please know that this will be a scaled-down Zoom service (run by our administrative staff) compared to our usual offering (run by a technology professional).

We will not be having a potluck or HeartSpace meeting this week.

Event will start promptly at 7pm — please arrive a few minutes early to check in and be seated.

Issa Nessim is a long time Chochmat collaborator and a Sufi master musician. He carries the legacy of his father, Dr. Ibrahim Abdurrahman Farajaje.
Issa has been playing at Chochmat HaLev since he was a teenager. A native of California, Issa spent ten years between there and Turkey as a young adult focusing on studying the rich tradition of Turkish Classical music, as well as learning Sufi music in the centuries-old Sufi lodges of Istanbul. Now a leader of his own services, he’s bringing his gentle wisdom and deep teaching back to Chochmat for a special Kabbalat Shabbat service.

Miriam Peretz is an internationally celebrated dance instructor and performer. Over the past twenty years her signature dance style has spread across continents through her international dance collective Nava, and through the intensive training’s she offers worldwide. Her movement quality and aesthetics also incorporate her years of martial arts training, contemporary dance, Flamenco, and many other world dance forms.

Rachel Velfar is a passionate singer and oud (Arabic lute) player who brings depth of feeling to every song. She studied Maqam and Persian dastgah modal systems in Israel and Palestine for six years at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, and sings with several ensembles in the Bay Area.
