Mind on the Move – Qigong, Alignment, Vitality

Mondays 6:00 - 7:15pm 5-class pass: $60 Drop-in: $15 Instructor: Molly Barker A dynamic meditation, Qigong uses attention, alignment, and tried-and-true postures and exercises to cultivate wholeness and health. Improve your balance, resilience and stability. Increase your capacities for liveliness, creativity, and sense of connection. Find a relaxed strength in your body, and wake up your natural capacities for healing. In this fun and approachable class, learn Qigong movements and walking forms while exploring fundamental principles: grounding, whole-body movement, relaxed breathing, and a friendly, focused awareness. Molly Barker has trained with Chris Fernie, founder of the Institute for Internal Transformation in Berkeley, California since 2008. She has studied body alignment and healthy movement, independently and with many teachers, since 2003. She is currently completing her teacher training in the Eight Active Ingredients of Tai Chi with Peter Wayne, author of The Harvard Medical School Guide to Tai Chi. From her many years as a practicing and teaching artist, she brings to Qigong a playful and searching mind. Register here

Daniel Matt Wisdom of the Kabbalah: Ancient Teachings and Contemporary Spirituality

Tuesdays February 19, 26 and March 5, 2019 - 6:30-8:00pm This is a three-session class. No drop-ins. $85 General Public, $65 Members of CHL In this three-session course, explore how Kabbalah reimagines transcendence as Divine presence and how it can enrich our lives. Aspects to be covered include: Ein Sof (as Infinity), Ayin (as mystical Nothingness), Shekhinah (as the feminine half of God), the mystical meaning of Torah, and “raising the sparks” (discovering Divine presence in the material world). The class will use texts of Kabbalah translated by Daniel Matt, including selections from the Zohar, the masterpiece of Kabbalah. Daniel Matt is one of the world’s leading authorities on Kabbalah and the Zohar. He taught at the Graduate Theological Union for twenty years. He has published over a dozen books, including The Essential Kabbalah (translated into seven languages) and God and the Big Bang: Discovering Harmony between Science and Spirituality. Recently Daniel completed an 18-year project of translating and annotating the Zohar, the masterpiece of Jewish mysticism. This work, consisting of nine volumes was published by Stanford University Press and is entitled The Zohar: Pritzker Edition. This annotated translation has been hailed as “a monumental contribution to the history of Jewish thought.” Powered by Eventbrite
