Mind on the Move Qigong

Mind on the Move with Molly Barker Mondays April 17, 24, May 1, 8, 22, 29, June 5 - 6:00-7:15pm (no class May 15) Location: Chochmat HaLev Drop-in $15 Series $84 5 class pass $60 SPACIOUS SPINE As we walk and move and sit and stand, it is possible to have a feeling of spaciousness in the spine. Space and length in the spine allows energy to flow freely to our arms and legs, enlivens our movements, improves our concentration, and lightens our load. In this seven week series we will cultivate the feeling of a spacious spine with specific awareness activities and gentle qigong exercises which encourage the spine to lengthen and open. Powered by Eventbrite Molly Barker has trained in Qigong and body mechanics with Chris Fernie, founder of the Institute for Internal Transformation, since 2008. She has studied body alignment and healthy movement, independently and with many teachers, since 2003. Currently a student in the Hanna Somatics practitioner program, Molly is also training for her teacher certification in Peter Wayne’s Eight Active Ingredients of Tai Chi. From her many years as a practicing and teaching artist, she brings to Qigong a playful and searching mind. Qigong (chi gung) is a set of movement and meditation practices originating in China. It integrates awareness of body, breath, and mind to restore health and wholeness. Hanna Somatics is a common sense mind-body training that helps release chronic tension and awaken new movement patterns.

Rock in the Red Zone

The Chochmat HaLev Israel-Palestine Program presents the film: Rock in the Red Zone

Tuesday, May 2, 2017 - 7:00-9:30pm Location: Chochmat HaLev Rock in the Red Zone (2014) is a personal exploration into the lives of musicians in a conflict zone. Near Israel’s border with Gaza lies Sderot, a working class city of refugees from North Africa and the Middle East, pummeled by missiles for years. In underground bomb shelters, residents don’t just survive, they create music – a unique sound that transformed Israeli music, injecting Middle Eastern influences into Western beats. Filmmaker Laura Bialis encounters a creative community that demonstrates the power of artistic creation in perseverance. A facilitated discussion will follow the screening. Open to everyone, all perspectives are welcome. We hope you will attend! $5 suggested donation Facebook                    Trailer                    Movie website “A powerful snapshot of the “real” Israel that shies away from politics but unflinchingly focuses on the effects of politics on the lives of people viewers can’t avoid feeling connected to.” Jerusalem Post “A moving portrait of a musical community that's managed to survive under far greater pressures than worrying about the next gig.” Hollywood Reporter “Perpetually neglected by the government, Sderot's exotic sonic influences and political disaffection together inform a unique sound that has come to redefine Israeli pop.” L.A.
