SUMMARY:Dance Class + Havdalah
DESCRIPTION: חשמלי (Hashmali) or ‘electric’ in Hebrew.\nThis night will be all about energizing and electrifying our bodies through guided dance and movement. We will mark the transition out of the restfulness of Shabbat into the week with vibrant dancing that nourishes the spirit and soul.\nWe will start the evening by delving into a few contemporary writings related to the Jewish body to bring intention and awareness to our movement. The night will proceed with a fun all levels, easy-to-follow dance class rooted in modern, African and folk dance led by Amie Segal.\nWe’ll end the evening with Havdalah led by Jessie Duke and more freestyle dancing for those who want to stick around and boogie! See you there!\nThis program is intended for experiential learners seeking to weave together Judaism and embodied practice. \nMovers of all levels are welcome!\n\nWear comfortable clothing you can move in.
\nEat dinner beforehand, snacks provided
.\nBring a water bottle.
\nKids are allowed with supervision and if the maturity level is appropriate.
\n\n \n Get tickets\n \nTickets\nMembers: $18\nNon-members: $25\n \nAmie Segal is the founder of The Living Room, a Los Angeles based organization that hosts lively evenings of movement and dance that weave together Jewish ritual and thought. She created The Living Room to explore the idea of embodied Judaism—how a physical practice can deepen and enrich our connection to Jewish spirituality. Amie has led Jewish movement programming for various LA Jewish institutions including IKAR, East Side Jews, SIJCC, Open Temple, NuRoots and Nefesh. She recently moved to the Bay Area where she is excited to be starting a Jewish Movement Collective. She is also a practicing Physical Therapist. Her writing on movement and Judaism has been published in The Forward and the Jewish Journal. \nRefund Policy\nTickets are non-refundable.\n \nCOVID Protocols\nOur new policy effective May 19th, 2023 is as follows:\nChochmat HaLev, in consultation with our medical advisor and based on community survey results, will discontinue masking requirements for attendance at events. Masks, although not required, are recommended. We understand people will need to make their own decisions about exposure and risk based on their own personal preferences, and health status.\nChochmat HaLev will provide passive ventilation (e.g., open windows and doors under the supervision of security-trained personnel) and other equipment as available.\nChochmat HaLev will include specific guidelines for those attending in person events on our website and in announcements regarding events.Chochmat HaLev will provide seating adjacent to a window in an end-of-the-row seat to individuals upon request.\nDO NOT attend an event at CHL:\n\nif you are experiencing any potential symptoms of COVID-19 or other illness\nif you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 10 days and have not had a negative antigen test on Day 6 or later\nif you have had a known exposure to COVID-19 in the past 3-5 days\nif a household member has tested positive in the last 10 days and has not had a negative test on Day 6 or later\n\n
