Merissa Nathan Gerson – Is That Really a Sin?

Sunday August 27, 2017 - 7:00pm Looking at historically heternormative and often sexist Jewish sexual laws this talk queers Torah, revisiting the ancient through a modern lens. Learn what traditional Judaism says about your love life, your sex life, your body and more, and how to read the ancient into the modern with love, acceptance, and understanding. Merissa Nathan Gerson consulted with the writer's room at Amazon's hit show, Transparent, where she shared her research at the Graduate Theological Union here in Berkeley, California. Her focus on sex and gender with professor Naomi Seidman, and on inherited trauma, with Stefania Pandolfo, helped form the story arc of season two. A writer and educator her work appears in The Atlantic, LIlith, Refinery29, Playboy and beyond and she speaks on sex, Judaism, and the inheritance of trauma and memory nationwide. $20 Members of Chochmat HaLev $25 General Public Powered by Eventbrite
