High Holy Day Youth Programming

Music, art, puppetry, snacks and more are part of our childcare and programs for older children.  Each day will include  free play,  holy entertainment,  story time, High Holy Day age appropriate teachings. Children must be registered for childcare to participate in children’s programming. This year’s programming for tots ages 1-5 will include Octoprezel, Magic Dan, and Diana Shmiana. New special programming for 6-10 year olds has been added this year for Rosh Hashanah  and Yom Kippur days!

There will be three separate (but nearby) spaces for children of different ages 1-5, 6-10 and 11+.  Childcare for these three age groups is available throughout the services.  Special programs for the different age groups happen at different times (see schedule below.)

We offer childcare and children’s programming at reduced rates to our members!  Childcare rates for members and general public are here. Space in childcare is limited and reservations must be received by Monday, September 2 for Rosh Hashanah and Tuesday, September 10, for Yom Kippur. Everyone (including members) needs to register. Childcare for all High Holiday services will be provided again this year -by Swiss Cheese Childcare. Swiss Cheese Childcare is built on a foundation of care, communication, community.

Octopretzel-especially for 1-5 year olds but open to all
Melita Silberstein, September 14th, 1:30-2:30 pm

Melita Silberstein is a musician and children’s music specialist based out of Berkeley. She teaches music classes for children in several Berkeley schools as well as out of her home. She is also the founding member of the popular Bay Area children’s band, Octopretzel. Melita has recorded a handful of CDs for both children and adults. Treasure Hunt for the Magic Wordespecially for 1-5 year olds but open to all

Magic Dan– beloved by children of all ages

Magic Dan is just like his name- Magic! His ability to engage his audience is uncanny. He captivates the children with his personality, and amazes them with his tricks. Magic Dan has the children at the edge of their seats at every moment, just waiting eagerly for the next dose of mesmerizing pleasure. Magic Dan’s show is 40 minutes of straight happiness. Rosh Hashanah (or Yom Kippur) and You – A Special Program for 6-10 year olds.
Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur days- 10:15am-11:45am
Learn about the holiday, each other and ourselves, with music, movement, games & fun.  Led by educator and musician, Simone Adler, this program will include interactive games and teachings about important Rosh Hashanah /Yom Kippur themes.  These programs will end with a special workshop with educators Elizheva Hurvich and Marla Kolman Antebi which will help prepare the children for joining service in the main sanctuary for the Torah reading and shofar service.
